So let’s be honest. Anyone who is anyone has heard of the
dance move ‘twerking’ and if you haven’t then where the hell have you
been? If you haven’t I’ve just found the
dictionary term below ;)
‘Dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner
involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.’
Now if you’re anything like me you like to drop it on the
dance floor (even if you do look like an idiot whilst doing it.) Grinding and
slut dropping is nothing less than you’d expect on a night out with me. But
Twerking, I’m not sure I’ve mastered the skill. So when Bloggers That Slay
invited me along to a twerk class I couldn’t say no. I grabbed my work out gear
and headed to an industrial estate in East London to Kelechnekoff Studios to
shake my butt on a Saturday afternoon (without any alcohol in my system – yes I
know shocking.)
Recently opened after a successful
crowdfunding campaign Kelechnekoff studios is the home place to learn the twerk and the studio does not disappoint. It’s soo cool, with
changing rooms I could only dream of having in my local gym, or even at home (Hollywood
mirrors and selfie spots, yes I know.)
Kelechi Okafor runs the studio and led the Twerk Werkz class
I and a small group took part in. We learned a short routine, worked on
something called muscle isolations and even managed to get a cheeky mannequin
challenge in at the end.
Now the art of twerking it’s self actually doesn’t revolve
around just shaking ya backside, but the movement in your lower back and
through to your legs and feet. It’s all about not concentrating ya butt but
allowing your body to control the twerk and ya butt movement will follow ;). Being the biggest lady there I was proud of what I
achieved and I think I can safely say I mastered the art of the Twerk ( I think the teacher would agree hahah.)
Shout out to Protein Haus who provided some yummy shakes and
protein snacks too. They were absolutely delicious and I’m sure helped the
recovery after the class. Boy did we use some muscles and energy.
Check out Kelechnekoff Studios to find out more. She takes
pole dance classes too, as well as offering party packages (I know where I’m
taking my girls for my birthday.)
